Iranian actor in Moscow int’l filmfest jury

Iranian director and producer Reza Mirkarimi has been picked as a jury member for the 39th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF).

Mirkarimi will serve as one of the four jury members for the main competition section of the MIFF, which is slated to take place in the Russian capital city of Moscow from June 22-29.

Other jury members include Italian actress Ornella Muti, Finnish director and producer Jorn Johan Donner and Spanish director and screenwriter Albert Serra.

Mirkarimi’s selection follows his big win at the festival last year, where his latest film ‘The Daughter’ brought home the Golden George Award for best film. Further, the lead actor in the movie Farhad Aslani also won best actor award.

His fifth film, ‘As Simple as That’, also won the Golden George Award for best film during the MIFF 2008 festival.

Mirkarimi studied graphic arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran.

He has made eight feature films during his career spanning 18 years. All of his films have won multiple awards locally and globally.

In total, his films have garnered 40 awards so far from festivals in Iran, Japan, Lebanon, Brazil, India, Spain, Estonia, Morocco, Russia, Australia, France, Canada and Czech Republic.

Three of his films have also been presented to the Oscar’s Best Foreign Language Film category, including ‘So Close, So Far’, ‘A Cube of Sugar’ and ‘Today’.

Mirkarimi has served as the festival director of Iran’s Fajr International Film Festival since 2016.
